BRIGHT to unveil more sustainable SunBell solar lamp at DIHAD 2025

BRIGHT Products will be presenting the upgraded and more sustainable version of its popular SunBell solar lamp at the 21st Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference and Exhibition (DIHAD) between 29 April and 1 May.

BRIGHT at DIHAD 2025

The upgraded SunBell, along with the rest of BRIGHT’s product portfolio, will be on showcase to visitors at BRIGHT’s stand in the Norwegian Pavillion (J17). BRIGHT is also proud to be one of the selected exhibitors at the Dubai Humanitarian Innovation Pavillion, where cutting-edge sustainability solutions take center stage.

BRIGHT will showcase two products at the Dubai Humanitarian Innovation Pavillion. These are the new SunBell, and the Sol High Capacity solar lamp which features a new, lighter and more efficient monocrystalline solar panel made with less plastic.

On Day 2 of the event (April 30), Lorena Muñoz Carena, BRIGHT’s Sustainability & Partnership Manager, will speak during the Showcasing Cutting-Edge Solutions by the Private Sector session (12:30 –13:00 local time). Her talk will focus on the pivotal role of portable solar lighting in humanitarian contexts, emphasizing long-term thinking and supplier responsibility in sustainability.

Upgraded SunBell: A more sustainable solar lamp

The upgraded version of the SunBell lamp features casing components made entirely from 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. The plastic is sourced from a Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certified supplier, ensuring full traceability and commitment to more than just environmental responsibility.

While certain parts such as the shade must still use virgin plastic to allow optimal light transmission, BRIGHT has committed to using recycled materials wherever performance allows.

Ambition to use low-impact materials

Product Designer Homero Heredia explains that the SunBell upgrade was inspired by customer feedback, in combination with BRIGHT’s ambition to use the lowest impact materials that deliver high-quality and performance. While the use of recycled plastics in pico-solar products is not yet a visible trend, customers have been continuously requesting suppliers use more recycled materials. Some suppliers have resorted to using recycled plastic in a limited percentage.

“BRIGHT’s approach has been to not mix virgin with recycled plastic. Instead, we have opted for a transition to 100% recycled on components that allow it — performance and quality wise,” adds Homero.

"We stay true to the material's properties by not adding anything unnecessary. That way, the product stays durable and functional — from the factory to the hands of the user," explains Line Irene Andersen, Head of R&D and Manufacturing.

SunBell: Designed for impact

The SunBell solar lamp is compact, lightweight, and multi-functional. With a bendable gooseneck, it transforms easily between a lantern, reading light, and torch. Offering up to 90 lumens of brightness and over 140 hours of runtime on its lowest setting, it also includes a built-in phone charger.

Designed to be repairable, recyclable, and weatherproof (IP64), the SunBell is a robust choice for humanitarian field use. Since its debut in 2014, over 4 million SunBell units have been distributed globally. SunBell is also the first solar lamp recognized as a core relief item by the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
