BRIGHT publishes Environmental Product Declarations for SunBell 2.0, Sol Mid Capacity solar lamps
As part of our commitment to sustainability, BRIGHT is proud to announce the publication of the Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for our SunBell 2.0 and Sol Mid Capacity solar lamps. These EPDs provide customers, procurement officers, and partners with independently verified data on the environmental footprint of our products.
An EPD is a standardised, third-party verified document that transparently reports a product’s environmental impact across its entire life cycle.
These declarations are based on comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA) studies of the SunBell and Sol product lines. LCAs are science-based methods that track the environmental impact of a product from raw material extraction and production to usage and end-of-life disposal or recycling.
The EPDs, valid until 2030, were created with One Click LCA and verified by EPD Hub. They adhere to internationally recognised standards, including EN 15804+A2, ISO 14025, and ISO 21930.
BRIGHT is currently conducting LCAs across its entire product range. These assessments use both cradle-to-gate and cradle-to-grave approaches:
- Cradle-to-gate measures impacts from raw material extraction to the factory gate, excluding usage and disposal.
- Cradle-to-grave covers every stage of a product’s life, from raw materials extraction through manufacturing, usage and final disposal.
The LCA study shows the average cradle-to-grave carbon footprint of the SunBell and Sol product lines, measured in global warming potential (GWP), is 5.30 kg CO₂e. This is equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions produced by an average petrol-powered passenger vehicle driving for 21.73 kilometres (13.5 miles) *.
For scale, this is approximately equal to the carbon footprint of 13 ¼ cups of coffee, or 31 (330ml) cans of cola soft drink* *. The global average annual consumption of 330ml cola soft drink cans per person is approximately 92 cans, while the global average annual consumption of coffee is approximately 50 cups per person. In developed coffee-drinking countries, the annual average per person ranges from 250 to 1000 cups.
Product-specific footprints:
- Sol Mid Capacity: 5.32kg of CO₂e (cradle-to-grave)
- SunBell 2.0: 4.72 kg of CO₂e (cradle-to-grave)
Publishing EPDs marks a significant milestone in BRIGHT’s journey towards sustainability and transparency. Within the pico-solar industry, and especially among portable solar lamp producers, EPD publication remains relatively rare.
“Communicating a product's carbon footprint can help consumers and procurement make more sustainable choices - but only when it's done transparently. At BRIGHT, we know that transparency builds trust, and with that trust we can build real impact,” says Lorena Muñoz Carmona, Sustainability and Partnerships Manager at BRIGHT.
“Given the context in which our solar lamps are used, and who the end-users are, it’s vital to acknowledge and continuously work to reduce our products’ environmental impact. Simply claiming a product is sustainable or eco-friendly is not enough. We challenge other producers in the pico-solar industry to join us in publishing their EPDs,” says Karianne Ellekrans, CEO of BRIGHT.
BRIGHT is committed to developing products that have minimal impact on the environment. By choosing a BRIGHT lamp, customers help reduce emissions compared to industry norms, supporting sustainable procurement and climate goals.

* Conversions are based on the Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator.
* * Carbon footprint estimates based on CO2 Everything:
- 1 cup of coffee: 0.4kg CO₂e
- 1 can of cola soft drink (330ml): 0.17kg CO₂e
