About BRIGHT

BRIGHT is a Norwegian solar product company catering to anyone who needs to be less dependent on the electrical grid, whether by choice or by living in off-grid or bad-grid communities. Our expanding range of multifunctional solar lamps and home systems with charging capabilities are built to endure harsh conditions. Our products are durable, functional and beautiful – firmly rooted in Norwegian design. Advanced solar technology and rigorous field testing of electronic components and materials create the foundation of lasting, multifunctional, rugged and portable (as well as charming) solar products with high product endurance, low total cost of ownership and minimum waste.

Four years after launch more than 2 million BRIGHT lamps are solving everyday problems for more than 8 million people, according to GOGLAs metrix. In homes and communities, in cities and camps, in the middle of nature:

Children use BRIGHT solar lamps to do homework at night. Women illuminate their paths for safety. Families power their homes. Travelers light up the dark. Entrepreneurs run their businesses and charge their phones.

From the design studio and the board room to our production facilities and distribution network:
Sustainability is key in BRIGHT’s value chain. We believe that by spreading knowledge about the benefits of clean solar energy and by innovating products, distribution and financing of efficient small-scale solar products, we can solve the lighting and charging needs of millions of individuals, families, entrepreneurs and businesses.

BRIGHT was the first company to fully commit to the Future-Fit Business Benchmark, a science-based definition of what it means to be an environmentally sustainable business for the future. Read our Future-Fit pledge, here. (pdf)

Since my first days in the energy business more than 15 years ago, I have heard talk of the 1 billion people without access to electricity. The significant price drop for solar power, batteries and LEDs, enable us to develop scalable business models with huge potential.

I studied business economy at the Norwegian School of Economics and spent several years consulting on business strategy and regulatory issues for the energy industry – mainly in upstream energy, natural gas infrastructure, renewable energy and carbon markets.

Working at BRIGHT is truly rewarding because it brings my interests together and has the potential to exceptionally impact many people’s lives.

I live in the Oslo neighborhood of Kjelsås, a good place for my daughters to grow up, close to the city centre and the vast Oslo forest.

As a young professional, I believe that my generation has a responsibility to seek out and learn from the most sustainable and ethical people in business. At BRIGHT, I'm surrounded by brilliant people who have come together to make a difference - there's no team I'd rather be part of!

Having grown up in Norway and Australia, I have seen complete darkness, and was always fascinated by the difference a beam of light can make. Knowing that to many BRIGHT is that difference makes every day purposeful and rewarding. Working to do so in a future-fit way inspires ambition and innovation, as we believe a business’ true success cannot be measured in monetary terms.

I studied International Business at BI Business School. Home is a tiny apartment in the Oslo neighbourhood of Frogner, close to everything I could ever need.

We all have a part to play in building a brighter future. That is why the future belongs to companies like BRIGHT. Companies that want their business to benefit customers as well as the world. Companies that strive to make a difference for the people and for the environment.

We cannot close our eyes to the challenges we are facing, and we should all aim for a world where people see new possibilities. That’s why I have joined the BRIGHT team. Passionate about the field of marketing, but even more passionate about giving people access to smart products and solutions that help us all make a better world. Renewable energy is one of the key factors to make us deliver smart products in a sustainable way.

The way we make our products and operate our company is other key areas. Making sure we do it in a future fit way and make sure we for strive for this every day is imperative for us. If we succeed the world will be a better place to live without harming the planet.

BRIGHT’s willingness to change to make a real impact on the world, has given me purpose to work long hours.

25 years of management positions in manufacturing, wholesale and retail has given me experience from both domestic and international sales in the outdoor sports industry and the convenience market. Here at BRIGHT, I get to use my background to make a difference for people for whom clean energy and light isn’t easy like a flick of a switch.

At the end of the day, 'home' is in Lille Tøyen Hageby on the east side of Oslo. There is no place I would rather live. This is home!

BRIGHT is working to improve living standard for millions of people, while building sustainable business models for solar energy.

Combining international humanitarian work with innovation and entrepreneurship is my main focus area. I hold a master’s degree in Social Entrepreneurship and International Development (Cand.Soc) from Roskilde University in Denmark. My previous work with humanitarian organisations and my membership in an international emergency response team has given me hands-on experience in aid and relief. Working at BRIGHT lets me continue to work in the field while continuously developing new skills. Helping to provide renewable energy for people is a viable business opportunity, but most importantly is is essential to lift vulnerable people out of poverty and into jobs.

After living and working in Norway for several years, I have returned to my hometown of Copenhagen. The city is full of life and energy, while being the main UN hub in Northern Europe: A perfect combination for me.

Ida Solem

After working in marketing for more than five years, I really wanted to work with something I’m passionate about. Sustainability and technology. At BRIGHT, I get to combine them!

Since marketing is driving the consume, I want to use my marketing skills to make the consume more sustainable.
My goal is to use my background in marketing, to show people that the world is a better place, when run on renewable energy.

I originally come from the west coast of Norway, but moved to Oslo at the age of 18, and has lived here since. I love this city, and I love living at Tøyen where I grow vegetables and enjoy the vibrant community in the neighborhood.

I have always had a passion for a job where we can do more than just generate revenues. In my previous job, we helped bringing internet to more people by making it more affordable, faster and better. At Bright, I am excited to improve lives of those off the power grid by making light more accessible, more affordable, easier and better.

My background is business development in Telenor’s European and Asian businesses, consulting in Accenture, a failed start-up and more... I have a masters degree in computer science and electronics from NTNU.

Onesmus Mbogo

Having lived in Africa my entire life, I’m engaged by the challenges faced by people without energy access. Promoting solar energy impacts the environment and society as a whole.

I have a bachelor’s degree in computer science and an MBA in Strategic Management, a background that fits well with BRIGHT’s objective of improving off-grid living through innovation. With BRIGHT, I have had the opportunity to visit areas where people live with no or limited access to power, and have seen how solar energy can positively change lives. This has given me the drive to enable more people to climb the energy ladder.

I live a 45-minute drive outside the polluted Nairobi city centre, where I enjoy a small garden with fresh produce and interact with the countryside folks.

Born and raised in Iceland, I used to take electricity for granted. Iceland can get very dark in the winter time but we are fortunate to have more than enough inexpensive and renewable energy to brighten up our lives. So I never really thought about how many people in the world live off-grid. Light being so important, e.g. helping people feel safe and giving them freedom to read and educate themselves even during dark hours.

After my studies in Iceland I moved to Germany. I found my calling in the supply chain, working among other areas in customer service, logistics, production planning, import and export. After 15 exciting years it was time to take on new challenges. I moved to Norway to be closer to my family, some of whom live here. Living just an hour train ride outside Oslo I can enjoy the beautiful nature right in front of my door.

I believe companies like Bright are making history; companies that aim to improve lives with renewable sources. I’m very proud to be a part of that and I’m ready to open my eyes to a world of new possibilities!

Eva Klingen

The future belongs to companies like BRIGHT, who want their business to benefit the world. We cannot close our eyes to the challenges we are facing, and we should all aim for a world where people see new possibilities. We all have a part to play in building a brighter future.

I have 15 years of experience from managing customer service in the sports industry, with front and back-office functions and sales support. My main expertise is in implementing strategic frameworks for international customer service.

I live in Norway. Although you need to be comfortable with cold weather, it is a country where you are free to assemble your tent almost everywhere - a great starting point for exploring the mountains and finding a quiet spot in nature.

This world needs companies like BRIGHT, a company with passionate people and ideas for clean energy to the many – offering affordable, sustainable and clever products to make life easier and better for people living outside the grid. I am very proud to have been given the opportunity to be part of the BRIGHT organization.
With my background from small and large companies in Europe and Asia, BRIGHT presents a wonderful opportunity to work with and contribute to something with a truly sustainable and good cause agenda, still based on sound business principles.
I live in the south of Sweden and are a frequent user of SKYPE and other web based forms of communication.

Mohammed Yassin

BRIGHT’s ability to take the risk and think outside the box is a refreshing and pleasant change from traditional views of development in off-grid areas without environmental hurt or depletion of resources. For the aim of delivering solutions for better off-grid living, BRIGHT takes its engineering seriously. Thus, the products actually do what BRIGHT say it will do.

Before getting my master degree in renewable energy, I gained good experience in electrical engineering projects with my bachelor degree in Sudan. Having experienced the struggle of unstable electricity myself, I’m proud to be one of BRIGHT’s team having the opportunity to contribute making ”everything visible”.

I live in the east side of central Oslo and I love it because I am surrounded by everything I like!

I have been a part of the BRIGHT story since day one. Actually even before BRIGHT, when we designed the SunBell at K8 Industridesign. Working with BRIGHT’s main target group has made me fully appreciate what I have access to in my life.

After taking my master’s degree in industrial design, I worked freelance before moving to Norway, joining K8 as an industrial designer. This was the beginning of what was to become BRIGHT.

To say it like Viktor Papanek in his book Design For The Real World: 'I want to create products that answer to needs that matter.'

I live in Oslo, with its good mix of city life and nature all close by!
