Repair

As the world moves towards more sustainable production and consumption, the need for products designed for maintenance and repair becomes increasingly important. We have proactively addressed this need by incorporating easy maintenance and repairability into its product design. This approach not only extends the lifetime of the products but also contributes to a more sustainable model of production and consumption.

Design for maintenance and repair

BRIGHT products are designed with easy maintenance and repairability in mind. This means that when the time comes, users can replace the battery with a new one to get additional years of use from their BRIGHT product. The products are also designed for easy disassembly and re-assembly using standard tools, making the repair process straightforward and accessible.

BRIGHT Repair Program

In 2021, BRIGHT launched its repair program to address the solar e-waste challenge in displacement settings. The program has three overarching goals: to prolong the life of solar lamps, facilitate capacity building and job creation, and address the challenge of solar e-waste in a holistic manner.

Dimensions of the repair program

The BRIGHT Repair Program has two main components: repair and capacity building. In the repair aspect, BRIGHT supplies spare parts and toolkits required for the repairs as per the agreement with stakeholder organizations. The capacity building component encompasses BRIGHT's digital repair platform, personal training, or a combination of both, providing the necessary information and materials to complete the repairs. This comprehensive approach ensures that the repair program is focused on repairing existing products and enabling individuals with the skills and resources necessary for sustainable repair practices.

Sustainable product design at the core

BRIGHT is dedicated to sustainable product design, and this commitment is reflected in our Repair Program. Our lamps are designed to be durable, repairable, and recyclable, ensuring that our products have a minimal environmental impact throughout their lifecycle. This approach is in line with our broader goal of reducing e-waste and promoting a circular economy for solar technology.
