SunBell
The emergency solar lamp trusted by aid agencies in 62 countries
In a crisis, reliable light means safety, dignity, and communication. SunBell is a proven humanitarian solar lamp designed for large-scale emergency response and preparedness programmes. Modular, durable, and simple to operate, it delivers dependable lighting and mobile phone charging in displacement settings, temporary shelters, and off-grid communities.
Since 2014, over 4 million SunBell solar lamps have been delivered worldwide. As the first solar lamp designated a core relief item, SunBell is trusted by international aid agencies, NGOs and communities operating in the world’s most demanding environments.
A core relief item
Displacement, natural disasters, and power outages demand lighting that performs under pressure. SunBell is the first solar lamp designated as a UNHCR Core Relief Item - a recognition of its proven performance across humanitarian operations worldwide. As a modular solar lantern, it adapts across use cases: room light, task light, torch, and hands-free lamp.
SunBell is independently certified to IEC TS 62257-9-5 and IEC TS 62257-9-8, providing verified performance data for procurement and specification purposes. It is also evaluated for photobiological safety under IEC 62471-7:2023, ensuring safe light output for end-users. SunBell is eligible for inclusion in long-term agreement (LTA) frameworks and meets the quality requirements of leading humanitarian procurement standards.
Designed for daily use in camps, shelters, and homes, SunBell combines long runtime, weatherproof durability, and proven humanitarian credibility. It is lighting people can depend on, year after year.

-
SunBell can be used as a room light, focused task light, and detachable torch. It is one lamp that covers multiple use cases, this means fewer lighting products are needed, giving users greater flexibility in shelters, homes, and camps
-
With its built-in USB charging for low-voltage devices, SunBell keeps mobile phones powered off-grid, enabling communication, safety and access to information during emergencies.
-
Up to 140+ hours (about 5 days) for SunBell 2.0Y or 180+ hours (about 7 days) for SunBell 80 of light on the low brightness setting means SunBell can provide light for days, not hours, giving users peace of mind during prolonged outages or displacement.
-
An IP64-rated housing and robust modular build protects SunBell from dust, rain, and rough handling. This gives SunBell reliable performance in humanitarian and preparedness settings.
-
SunBell's easily replaceable battery unit extends product lifespan well beyond warranty. This translates to lower total costs of ownership for aid programmes.
The gold standard in portable solar lighting
The gold standard in portable solar lighting
SunBell sets the benchmark for reliable, sustainable solar lamps. A testament to the idea that durability is the first step towards sustainability, SunBell is built for 5-7 years of daily use, reducing replacement cycles and electronic waste.
The latest SunBell 2.0Y model uses 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic, lowering its cradle-to-grave footprint to approximately 4.72kg CO₂e.
By replacing kerosene lamps, SunBell helps households and aid programmes:
- Reduce indoor air pollution
- Cut fuel costs by USD$100 – 300 in fuel costs annually
- Avoid hundreds of kilograms of CO₂e emissions
Repairability and long service life make SunBell a practical, responsible choice for large-scale deployment. SunBell is available in two models to fit different needs:
- SunBell 2.0Y: 4.8Wh battery, up to 140 hours of light (about 5 days), 10x brighter than a kerosene lamp on the highest setting
- SunBell 80: 7.5Wh battery, up to 180 hours of light (about 7 days), 15x brighter than a kerosene lamp on the highest setting
